What IS child abuse? Child abuse is when harm or danger is brought upon a child. This could be done by a parent, guardian, family member, care giver, or any other adult. Many adults don't actually understand the exact line between discipline and abuse. CUTS, LESIONS, SCRAPES,BRUISES,EMOTIONAL DAMAGE, or ANYTHING present on a child indicating that they could have been abused IS ABUSE. The subject of abuse is open to any interpretation for any race, religion, or culture, but there are also certain laws restricting to what a person could do. Anything that causes a child distress to an extreme degree multiple times could also be considered as abuse. Lack of parenting skills, substance abuse, uncontrollable rage, or disastrous childhood are some factors of reasons to why adults abuse children.
Types of Child Abuse:
-Physical Abuse Physical abuse is harm towards the children by punching, hitting, slapping, kicking, hitting with objects, etc. -Sexual Abuse The most common sexual abuse towards a child is incest.Incest is when there are sexual relations in the family blood line. When a child is being forced to have intercourse with an adult against their own will is not only abuse, but it is also considered as rape. Sexual abuse could be non-physical, where indecent exposure is held, obsene language or phone calls, or "peeping toms", or it could also be physical, where it includes fondling, oral stimulation, or intercourse. -Emotional Abuse Any harsh language towards the child could be interpereted as emotional abuse. Verbal assaults, graphic images, or events could damage a child mentally. Although emotional abuse is a difficult type of abuse to verify with the child, if the child feels distraught due to any authentic reason, it is infact, emotional abuse. It could damage a child's self-esteem and lower their confidence levels. Some cases end up in very disruptive behavior when growing up. In some outcomes of emotional abuse, grown adults could end up doing the same to their own child, subconciously. -Neglect Neglect is simply when a parent is not taking care of their child as well as they could. This includes: ▪not feeding the child enough to cause health risks. ▪poor housing job. ▪not able to support the child and many other factors.
